Sikorski survives vote in Sejm

PiS demanded his removal as speaker in order to maintain the seriousness of the parliament and to restore public confidence in parliament. Krzysztof Szczerski from PiS said the time was right to end what he described as “the failed experiment of Radek Sikorski’s consolation prize” for losing his job as Foreign Secretary.

Following the vote there was the rather odd site of Mr Sikorski, as speaker, announcing MPs had voted not to dismiss Radoslaw Sikorski by a margin of 240 votes to 146 with 48 abstentions. Mr Sikorski turned to the house and said “thank you” before letting a no-doubt relieved smile cross his face. One hundred and forty six MPs voted for the motion, with 240 against and 48 abstaining.
