Description of election in Belarus........
Belarus elects on national level a head of state - the president - and a legislature. The president is elected for a five-year term by the people. The National Assembly (Нацыянальны сход, Nacy yanal'ny skhod) has two chambers.
The House of Representatives,Palata Pradstawnikow) has 110 members elected in single-seat constituencies elected for a four-year term. The Council of the Republic (Soviet Respubliki) has 64 members, 56 members indirectly elected and 8 members appointed by the president.
Presidential Elections
In 1994, the first ever elections for the office of President of Belarus took place. Before the adoption of the state constitution, Belarus had a prime minister ever since they broke away from the Soviet Union. At the time, Vya chaslaw Kye bich was the prime minister. At the end of the first balloting in June 1994, Kye bich was slated to face the other candidate, Alexander Lukashenko.
