Ahmedabad: After voting in Ahmedabad early this morning, Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate clicked selfies with his inked finger held out. He later posted a photo on Twitter saying, "Voted! Here is my selfie."
Mr Modi, seen as the forerunner for the country's top post, also held up the lotus symbol of the BJP and addressed the media gathered outside the polling booth. His political rivals have cried foul.
Wednesday, officials said.A total of 334 candidates are in the fray for the Lok Sabha. Balloting is taking place at 45,380 polling stations where over 234,000 polling personnel have been deployed. More than 40 million people are eligible to vote in all 26 constituencies where voting is being held in a single phase.
The Gujarat Congress has complained to the Election Commission. EC sources said they would examine if Mr Modi has violated its code.
In an attempt to demonstrate that crucial differences in his party are now settled, Mr Modi began the morning by tweeting, "On my way to vote. I consider myself extremely blessed & fortunate to be a voter in Advani ji's Parliamentary Constituency."
The Gujarat chief minister has apologised to his state and thanked it for backing him despite his having had "only 18 hours of campaigning" to spare for it. The BJP's election campaign this year has been fashioned around Mr Modi, who has dashed from state to state in the last many weeks, addressing as many as five rallies on some days.
