Delhi: Pawan Kalyan, brother of actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi,
has topped the list of celebrity candidates searched on Google.
Kalyan, who recently launched a new political party 'JanSena', ranked ahead of names like actress Ramya (Divya Spandana) and poet-turned-politician Kumar Vishwas from Aam Aadmi Party.
"A lot of celebrities are contesting in 16th Lok Sabha elections. Celebrities have always been a major draw for political parties in the Indian electoral process, especially in the campaigning phase but they are expected to play a bigger role in this election season," Google said in a statement.
Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant also gained significant response online with the launch of her new political party Rashtriya Aam Party in Mumbai, ranking seventh in the search list.
Launching his new political party Jana Sena in true cinematic style, the actor, popularly called 'Power Star', addressed his fans and others for almost two hours. Thousands gathered at the venue in Hyderabad and across the state, arrangements had been made at multiple venues for fans to sit together and watch the launch of their star's newest venture.
The new wannabe political leader clarified that he was not against Telangana but "the way they divided us made me angry, it disgusted me. So, I launched my party Jana Sena".
He also slammed Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader K Chandrasekhar Rao's daughter Kavita who had said Pawan Kalyan must first clarify his stand on Telangana. Kavita must first explain what she has done with the funds, contributions and accounts of the NGO she runs, he said.
Pawan Kalyan also said that he had campaigned for the Praja Rajyam Party, which Chiranjeevi founded, five years ago but had not imagined that he would take the plunge into politics. "Delhi is responsible for me wanting to give up even acting," he said.
The independent candidates have reportedly pleaded with him to campaign for them like he did for the BJP on Tuesday. "These leaders are urging Pawan Kalyan to support their candidature to contest for the Lok Sabha seats. There are also request from Assembly contestants too. It is likely that Janasena president is to select candidates for campaigning based on individual merits," said a source.
According to his original schedule, Pawan Kalyan will be campaigning along with TDP president Chandrababu Naidu in Telangana and Seemandhra regions on April 24 and May 1, respectively. With such fresh requests coming in, the NaMo fan may have to consider the needs of his newfound fans in politics.
"We won't be angry with Anna (Chiranjeevi) for what someone in Delhi did; he is like a father to me but am having to stand up against him because of the Congress," said Pawan Kalyan.
